EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help individuals process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. It works by activating the brain’s natural information processing system using bilateral stimulation, most commonly through guided eye movements. EMDR can reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories, supporting integration so that past experiences are no longer experienced as overwhelming in the present.

If you find yourself feeling stuck in painful memories, patterns, or reactions long after an event has passed, and are seeking an alternative or adjunct to traditional talk therapy, EMDR may offer meaningful relief. It supports deep and adaptive processing, allowing individuals to develop new perspectives on previously distressing experiences.

I have presented on EMDR and written clinical articles on its application in trauma treatment, and I am trained in a range of EMDR protocol adaptations, including early intervention following disaster and critical incidents, phase-oriented and parts-informed approaches for complex trauma and dissociation, and contained methods of processing for highly distressing or overwhelming memories. I am also an EMDRAA Consultant-in-Training with the EMDR Association of Australia.

For further information and resources on EMDR, you can visit EMDRAA (EMDR Association of Australia).
